Scam & Phishing Awareness

Scams and phishing attacks are among the most common threats on Discord. They are designed to trick users into sharing login details, clicking malicious links, or trusting fake offers. Awareness is the most effective protection.

Common Discord Scams

Be cautious of messages involving:

Free Nitro or giveaways

"Free Nitro", "You won a prize", or "Claim your reward"

Fake Discord support

Messages pretending to be from Discord staff or moderators

Fake partnerships or sponsorships

Malicious links

Shortened URLs or look-alike domains

Suspicious files

"Screenshots", "mods", or "leaked content"

How Phishing Works

Phishing attempts often:

  • Imitate official Discord or well-known websites
  • Create urgency or fear ("Your account will be banned")
  • Ask for login credentials, tokens, or personal data
Discord will never ask for your password or 2FA codes.

Protection Best Practices

  • Never click unknown or unsolicited links
  • Do not download files from strangers
  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
  • Use strong, unique passwords
  • Educate members to report suspicious messages immediately

What to Do If a Scam Is Detected

  • Block and report the user
  • Delete scam messages if you have permission
  • Warn affected members
  • Review audit logs and recent role changes
  • Reset passwords and revoke sessions if an account was compromised

Educate Your Community

  • Pin scam warnings in public channels
  • Create a #security or #announcements channel
  • Share examples of common scams regularly

Security reminder: Scams succeed when users act quickly without thinking. Taking a moment to verify messages can prevent serious damage.
